As you know, I've been a long-time admirer of Seiko and Grand Seiko. While the separation of the two brands has shifted my collecting focus somewhat, my passion for unique timepieces remains. This is why the Grand Seiko SBGY033, a limited edition spring drive created exclusively for the Wako boutique, caught my eye. With only 50 pieces made, it certainly fits the bill for rarity.
I've owned several Grand Seiko models with the 'elegance' case design in the past. Despite their modest dimensions – the SBGY033 is a very wearable 38.5mm with a 10.2mm thickness – I've always felt they appeared larger on my wrist than I preferred and ultimately ended up selling them.
This time, however, I was determined things would be different. The SBGY033's stunning black radial patterned dial, combined with its extreme exclusivity, truly captivated me. Yet, despite my intentions, history has repeated itself, and this beautiful watch is now on the market, just like its predecessors.
Perhaps one day I'll find an 'elegance' case that feels just right, or maybe this particular design simply isn't for me. Time will tell!
